Can We Talk?
Social Communication Skills for Children with LD
SmartKids with LD is presenting this free program on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Darien Library at 1441 Post Road in Darien.  "Dr. Lydia Soifer will lead a workshop on skills required for effective social communication, and proven methods to help children with learning disabilities master social skills." College Coaching: Helping Students on the Autism Spectrum Transition to Post-Secondary Education
Lynda Geller, Ph.D. will present this intensive, unique training program to prepare individuals to support students with Asperger Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorders in making the transition to higher education and developing the skills critical for adult independence.  The course will take place Dec. 6-10, 2010 from 9 am to 2:30 pm at 303 Fifth Avenue, Suite 1003, New York, NY 10016.  Contact Lynda Geller for registration information at lynda.geller@aspergercenter.com or call 212-686-3535 ext. 205.

Kids Quest
is a program that provides a fun and friendly way for children and teenagers to improve self-regulation and social skills. The program is offered by Emily A. Cashman, Psy.D., and a second licensed clinical psychologist,Dr. Beitel. Kids Quest is offering 2 groups beginning in March 2009. Interest parents should contact Dr. Cashman at her Westport office, 203-984-7117 .

Special Education Network of New Canaan, Ltd. provides information about seminars, conferences and events of interest to parents.

Nonverbal Learning Disorder Association
is a good source of information on NVLD.

The Schwab Learning site provides information on learning difficulties with tips and links for parents, students and teachers. This is a not-for-profit site.

The Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities provides services for children and adults with LD and/or ADHD, their families, and professionals who work with them.

The Center for Learning Differences, Inc. connects families and professionals dealing with learning differences with information and resources. A section with lists of Evaluation Centers and Private Evaluators serving children and families in the New York metropolitan area can be found in their "Getting Started" menu. Winston Prep was their first "Featured School".
